You only need to prepare a little before settling into your meditation. Relax your whole body first, so that you are carrying no detectable stress or worry in your muscles, face or posture. Say to yourself, “Now I will meditate and even if the sky should fall to the earth, I will pay it no mind.”

3. Re-Affirm Yourself

We all harbor the wish to heal our emotional wounds. What exactly is forgiveness? Forgiveness is not just saying “I forgive you.” It is an active, conscious decision to let go of anger, resentment and bitterness, and to do so regardless of whether the object of anger seems worthy of being forgiven.

In fact, the moment you form a thought of forgiveness, the process of forgiveness will have already begun. Forgiveness calms stress levels, leading to improved health.

Forgiving allows you to release anger, resentment and hurt. Forgiveness breaks the chains binding you to your past and sets you free.

When you clear your headspace of feelings of hostility, you begin to feel empathy, compassion, and sometimes even affection for the person who wronged you.

In Tibet, Nepal, and other regions, a kind of precious stone has been treasured by many for years. Among the myths and legends connected with it, the most prominent is that it once belonged to celestial beings. Called the Dzi bead, it is known to some as “Heaven’s Bead.”

The Dzi bead, also known as “Eyes of Heaven,” is one of the “Seven Mystical Gems.” Its outer appearance is mostly brownish black or a light-tan color. Ancient Tibetans would create Dzi beads from nine-eyed shale stone, but due to the rarity of it, they gradually began to use agate instead. Thus, Dzi beads made from authentic nine-eyed shale stone are very difficult to find.

Modern craftsmen, like their ancient counterparts, first draw out the patterns on the material, then proceed to fire it in a kiln. There are several different shapes, sizes and designs of Dzi beads: oblong, round, striped, and goat’s eye (Lumik in the Tibetan language).

Some are also known to have patterns resembling a tiger’s coat, or a vase, the shell of a turtle, or a lotus flower. Very often, Dzi beads are etched with many “eyes.” It is believed that the “Eyes of Heaven” on such Dzi beads have the power to stare down demons, scaring them away. As such, they serve as protection against evil spirits and calamities, detect malicious intentions and repress them, thereby bringing in good fortune.

Grandmaster JinBodhi once mentioned: “The heavenly eye on Dzi beads represents the greatest evil-dispelling eye between Heaven and Earth. If they are blessed with energy, they can drive away evil demons and bestow wearers auspicious protection.”

Wearing them for a long time improves physical and mental balance, develops carefree wisdom of equanimity, improves our mind, and achieves a harmonious, perfect life.

Lin Xiang | United States: Success, Not Stress

I work in an international bank as a senior management executive. My typical workday consists of providing leadership in important meetings, problem-solving, and decision-making. Some admire my influential position, but for a long time I felt anything but blessed in having to confront challenging issues every day.

Gastric ulcers run in my family. My father underwent a gastrectomy. As I suffered gastric ulcers as well, I was anxious to avoid a similar fate. I had tried various methods of treating gastric ulcers. Not only did the problem persist, there were many side effects of the treatments, including weakness and fatigue.

During Bodhi Meditation’s 8.5-Day Health & Happiness Retreat, I experienced spontaneous fasting. My gastric pain did not flare up despite the fact that I did not ingest solid food for many days. Even drinking cold beverages on chilly days no longer posed a problem. After four months of meditation, my weight dropped 15lbs (7kg).

To have encountered Bodhi Meditation is a great blessing. I am healthier, my work performance has improved, and I’ve achieved my ideal weight. Being a vegetarian and practicing meditation daily keep my energy levels high.
