On May 5, 2025, the annual celebration of the Buddha’s Birthday—the Bathing the Buddha Festival—was joyously welcomed once again. From the beginning of the month, Bodhi Meditation Centers around the world entered a season of celebration, filled with an atmosphere of joy and harmony. People gathered together to joyfully share in the festivities and create beautiful memories.

Bodhi Meditation’s Bathing the Buddha Festival celebrations were diverse and vibrant, featuring food markets, fun games for children, peaceful chanting and prayer rituals, blessings from ‘celestial beings’, and a 3D dynamic light show combining technology and art. Of course, the bathing the Buddha activity was also present. These joyous and heartwarming festivities exemplified the compassionate guidance of Grandmaster JinBodhi—offering an inclusive and joyful space for all to connect with the Dharma.
The Meaning of Bathing the Buddha | Purifying Body and Mind for Clarity and Illumination
The Bathing the Buddha Festival commemorates the birth of Sakyamuni Buddha, rooted in the story of nine dragons bathing the newborn Buddha with heavenly water—symbolizing purity, wisdom, and enlightenment. The Buddha’s mission throughout His life was to share this method of inner purification with the world, guiding people to return to their pure, original nature and awaken inner wisdom.

To express gratitude and reverence to the Buddha, the festival’s most important ritual is to bathe the Buddha statue with sacred water and fresh flowers. This is not only a symbolic external act of respect, but also an inner practice. Through gazing at the Buddha, recalling his teachings, and bathing his image, we symbolically cleanse our own body and mind—removing afflictions, clearing distractions, and restoring peace and clarity within.

Each year, Grandmaster JinBodhi leads the public in welcoming this meaningful day and offers compassionate teachings. He has emphasized that bathing the Buddha is not just a tradition—it is a spiritual cleansing. To bathe the Buddha is to bathe ourselves—to wash away inner burdens and welcome light, health, good fortune, and renewal.
