After graduation, many young people can’t find a good job because they don’t know themselves well enough, or may underestimate the difficulties of finding a good job. So, they find that they don’t like their job on the first day of work. Or the job is not suitable for them. They want to change their career only to find that too many people are already in line!
After all, how do you choose a job that suits you, and what kind of attitude should you maintain in your work so that you can continue to succeed? Here is a brief introduction.
For Young People, How Should They Choose A Job?
“After graduation, what job is suitable for me.”
“Is it easier to find a good job if I graduate from a prestigious university?”
After graduating from college, young people face their first challenge: choosing a career and finding a suitable job. So how can you make the correct choice? In the live broadcast, Grandmaster JinBodhi proposes several suggestions specific to young people:
Personalities
Only when you know yourself can you use your advantages to secure a good job. When learning, young people should pay more attention to whether they are better in liberal arts or mathematics and science. Most of these are affected by different personalities. For example, if you are thoughtful and meticulous, being a computer engineer, doctor or architect will suit you. Also, people who are sensitive to numbers and are extremely strict on details are more suitable for these jobs. Those suitable for the arts, such as painters, dancers, or performers of art and literature, are easily moved because of their personalities. They like to create things with their hands. They are especially good at thinking from multiple perspectives rather than just sticking to one fixed answer.
Genes
As the saying goes, “The apple never falls far from the tree.”
Suppose both parents are engaged in science and engineering. In that case, their children naturally have strong abilities in these fields. It’s called genetic inheritance. Another example is that if a mother is a dancer, her children will show aptitude when they dance. Therefore, children can refer to their parents’ careers about 80% while choosing their own careers.
The United States has conducted 22 years of research and investigation on this issue. As a result, they found in a census analysis that sons are 2.7 times more likely to choose the same occupation as their fathers for their first job. Likewise, daughters are 1.8 times more likely to choose the same occupation as their mothers for their first job.

Effect of The External Environment
We often say, “Aspiration opens the door to a career, and work is the journey to fulfill dreams.” Young people often aspire to become doctors because of being stimulated by the external environment, say for example, when their parents are ill and exhausted. Others may be encouraged and praised by their teachers, building confidence to work after graduation. Environmental factors also inspire some people to contribute to society. Regardless of the factors, young people must carefully evaluate their conditions before choosing a career.
What Are Your Difficulties In Choosing A Job?
Is it because of your school’s ranking? Or your arrogance?
Do you lack confidence? Or are you afraid of losing yourself at work?

After graduating from a top university, many students only want to work at a big company. They need a high salary and a good job title. But after making this decision, they end up working at a random small company and are unhappy with their daily work. Some fortunate people may enter a big company. Still, because they are too sensitive to take responsibility, can’t handle complicated interpersonal relationships in the big company, or are reluctant to obey thousands of rules, etc., they finally choose to quit…… People with wealthy families would choose to live off their parents and never work again.
In fact, neither your work nor the size of the company blocks you, just your attitude!
How to prevent school’s ranking, a wealthy family, and even arrogance from blocking your road to success?
Grandmaster JinBodhi once shared the story of his father working as an apprentice to explain the advantages and disadvantages of large and small companies to young people in a lecture for youth. The story guides young people in choosing jobs to have the correct attitude and help them solve many difficulties in choosing a job.
◎ Grandmaster JinBodhi’s Father – The Story of Being an Apprentice
My father learned to build houses from a mason in Tianjin when he was 13. How did my father learn? First, he babysat the mason’s children. He did all the family chores, such as looking after the children, shopping, washing, cooking, cleaning, and so on. A mason must first practice patience and diligence. About a year and a half later, the mason finally said, “There is a new apprentice to replace you. You can come to work on the construction site.” Wow! My father was thrilled to hear that. He could finally learn something useful.
The next day, the mason asked my father to learn “making mud”. Technology was not developed at that time. There was no concrete mixer, so making mud was entirely done by manpower. My father needed to wear rain shoes to stomp on the mud. My father said, “Well, after making mud for three days, it’s like being dead. I can’t feel my legs anymore. I can’t walk. I’m exhausted.”
My father made mud for three months. When he returned home during the Spring Festival, he cried and told my grandfather that he didn’t want to do that job anymore. He was really tired. My grandfather asked, “How did the mason teach you?” My father said, “The mason asked me to make mud every day. It is physically demanding and hard to remember all the mud-making methods. Different mud-making methods have their own features, which drives me crazy. For example, when I make a particular mixture of mud, I add lime. The lime dust in the air makes my eyes red, and they hurt too much to open. Isn’t it too much?”
After hearing this, my grandfather said, “The mason is a good teacher. Son, you must go back to him. Otherwise, I will kick you out of the house.” My father had to be obedient and went back to studying hard. After the mason saw my father was qualified, he taught him various methods of making mud. Although the mason didn’t beat him in the learning process, he often scolded my father. Because working on the construction site was so exhausting, people tended to get angry. As for my father, he didn’t care about that. He just studied hard every day.
Finally, my father learned more than 20 methods of making mud; the mud he made could defend cannon fire and build fancy ancient temples. He also mastered the skills to build a three-meter-long arched cement wall without bricks. In the end, he even learned how to carve wood and could make fancy wood products himself, which was fully beyond his profession. Therefore, my father, in his 30s, was able to undertake difficult work, such as renovating dilapidated buildings. As a result, he became the most valuable and sought-after builder in China.
So, the closer you are to your boss and teacher, the more often you get scolded, but the more you learn. Then, you can become an expert in the industry. Only by persevering and having a modest and prudent heart can you continue to succeed in work.

Q: “Can I turn my hobby into a career?”
In fact, you need to spend money on your hobbies! For example, your hobby is painting, playing the piano, or playing the flute. Before becoming famous, your painting may only sell for hundreds of dollars. If you sell it, you can live. If you don’t sell a painting for several days, you will be hungry for several days. Here’s another example. Suppose your hobby is riding horses. Raising a horse in the city is very expensive. Depending on the horses’ breed, the cost of feeding, caring, cleaning, brushing, and training is expensive. Only wealthy people can afford this hobby.
The gap between dreams and reality is always huge. Therefore, when choosing a career, you must prioritize your basic needs. A hobby is not essential, only a way to enrich your life.

Question: “Why not choose a niche industry?”
There was a lady in Canada whose specialty was large professional computers, different from ordinary computers. This lady looked for a job for a long time, but failed. I asked her, “You learned cutting-edge knowledge. Why can’t you find a job?” She pouted proudly, “My specialty is not for ordinary people.” I said, “So what? We must make our living first! No matter how skilled we are, we’ll starve to death if we can’t find a job.”
Finally, according to some surveys, only 31 people in Canada were engaged in this industry. About 50 people were waiting to fill the job vacancy in this field. This lady had been waiting for more than 20 years and had not yet found a job. Therefore, we learn a skill to make a living. A niche industry can only be treated as a hobby. It can’t be treated as your major way to make a living.

Question: “Is it easier to find a job after graduating from a top university?”
Generally speaking, if your school has a good reputation, its students will be highly educated. But your school’s effect will gradually disappear after you have worked for a while. The main reason is that personal efforts and performance are the most important at work. Suppose a student graduated from a mediocre university. Suppose he was refused by some large companies when he was looking for a job because of his educational background, so he had to enter a small company. However, he worked very hard and did a good job. As a result, his boss might promote him to senior manager. He received unexpected results. In this case, the attitude of modesty, prudence, and progress is very important. You’ll start from small but eventually get something big.
Summary
It is crucial to choose the correct career in one’s life. We can help young people broaden their horizons and tap their potential by discussing work issues. It will help them regain confidence, become contributors to society, and make their lives bright as well as more meaningful and valuable.
