In manta chanting meditation, a specific phrase or syllable is repeated. It can be chanted out loud or quietly inside your head to connect with Divine energy and receive blessings and healing.

Can Meditation Help with Incurable Skin Problems?
Spiritual meditation is a method to connect to a higher Divine power. Spiritual meditation practices are also taught in many Buddhist sutras to eliminate your negative karma and accumulate the karmic merits needed to live a happier life.
According to the Buddhist understanding of cause and effect, our health and appearance are correlated with our life energy, fate, and karmic merits. One way to change our life energy, and future, or gain auspiciousness is through accumulating values, doing good deeds, and making offerings and donations.
For example, the Earth Store Bodhisattva’s Vow Sutra states that one can gain a better appearance through listening or reading the sutra or offering incense, flowers, food, or clothes. These are all examples of spiritual meditation methods and practices.
One of Grandmaster’s students had psoriasis on his back, about the size of a basketball. He recovered after accumulating merits. There used to be thick scabbed skin – knocking on it would even make noise at night. It was so itchy that he scratched until it bled. After consulting a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) doctor about his incurable disease, he was instructed to do good deeds and accumulate merits. The psoriasis was most probably due to his past negative karma.
Around the same time, he coincidentally discovered Bodhi Meditation. He joined our volunteers in donating his time and efforts to help with renovations for a new meditation hall. In contributing his time to a charitable organization, he would receive a portion of the merits created when other people benefitted from Bodhi. After a month of painting walls, his psoriasis almost completely recovered. It is the effect of accumulating values.

Walking Meditation

Steps to Perform Mantra Chanting
- Choose Your Mantra: To begin with, choose the mantra that resonates most with you. Read about different mantras here.
- Find Your Meditation Spot: Once you have decided on your mantra, it’s time to put all that knowledge to practice. It is best to select a quiet, comfortable spot with no noise, distraction, or any other possibility of losing focus in the middle of your mantra chanting. Make sure to keep warm.
- Get into the Right Mindset for Chanting: Before beginning, it is important to ensure you chant with a sincere and respectful heart.
- End the Meditation: End the meditation with Bodhi Meditation Closing Exercises. Rub your hands together, then gently run them over your face. Pat your body gently all over, from head to toe. Lightly run your hands over your body, and think, “I am closing this meditation.”
Steps to Perform Spiritual Meditation
Do Good, Donate, or Volunteer: There are many ways to donate, such as donating food, clothes, and money to those in need, contributing to a charitable organization, or donating your time and effort through volunteering. A small donation can make a big difference in times of need. Get into the habit of doing good deeds; over time, you will accumulate many merits and good karma.
According to the Earth Store Bodhisattva’s Vow Sutra, he lived the same life as Buddha in one of Earth Store Bodhisattva’s past lives. He was stunned by Buddha’s magnificent appearance. He asked Buddha: “What are the ways to obtain a good appearance similar to you who has a beautiful, majestic, delicate, and perfect beauty?” Buddha answered, “you should forever use this Dharma to benefit all sentient beings.” Hearing this, the Earth Store Bodhisattva vowed to follow in Buddha’s footsteps and help all sentient beings.
- Offering Flowers: In Buddhism, offering flowers to Buddha and Bodhisattva is a good start to accumulating merits. Offering flowers reverently before Buddha and Bodhisattva can make one’s appearance as beautiful as flowers. Presenting to a cultivator or monk can also achieve the same effects. As they help and teach other sentient beings, you receive some of the merits of your offerings to them. Thus, if one day they achieve enlightenment, the offeror will obtain the same auspiciousness!

Student’s Experience with Meditation for Psoriasis

Our student Qi Fang was diagnosed with psoriasis, an extremely difficult skin disease to treat, causing itchiness all over her body. Her psoriasis affected her daily life, work, and personal relationships. Fortunately, she discovered Energy Bagua, which helped her to regain health and joy:
“In 2015, I lost my temper and went into a great rage. Less than two months later, rashes appeared on my body and developed into psoriasis. It started on my forehead between my eyebrows. Then it went to my ears, and legs, and gradually to my back and buttocks. It spread all over my body. As I scratched, the rashes grew red and became bigger. It was severe psoriasis, and the pain lasted over eight months. I was itchy all over. How could I work? I went to the doctor, but the medication didn’t help.
I became more stressed. My skin was so itchy that it was like being bitten by bugs. The affected areas felt like they were smothered in salt. People didn’t dare get close to me. They were afraid of being infected. After 2 or 3 months, my sister brought me a Meditation & Health magazine, where I read stories about people who recovered their health by walking around a tree. She suggested we give it a try.
After half a year of practice, I started to sweat. 80-90% of my skin healed, leaving psoriasis on only my back and buttocks. Energy Bagua has benefited me greatly. Because of my psoriasis, I persisted in practicing Energy Bagua every day. After one year of Energy Bagua practice, I have recovered my health. Health and happiness can be “seen” on one’s face. Before, I was pale and puffy. Now, I am much lighter and slimmer – many people say I look good and glow.
I am very grateful. Psoriasis changed my life, mentality, and everything about myself. Good things such as truth, kindness, and beauty arise from practice. Thank you, Grandmaster JinBodhi.”
